Despite beeing a car guy I also love to collect watches.

Cars and watch brands have a long history together as chronographs were essential, since the first day in auto industry to take , average speeds, acceleration times, lap times and so on.

Paul Newman and his Rolex Daytona

You may remember the association between Le Mans, Daytona and Paul Newman with Rolex, Tag Heuer with Mclaren and Steve Mcqueen, Jaeger Le Coultre and Aston Martin, Longines, Girard Perregaux and more recently Hublot with Ferrari, the new Tudor USCC and others.

when I first bought my RX-8, my dad gave me one of these watches:

Kinja'd!!!

other than sucking down the batteries and needing to be rebuild every couple of months, it was a nice watch.

To each his own. I would rather spend that money on other things, but that is me.

Very nice collection! Can you give the model of the middle one in the 4th row (steel chrono) ?

no " The Dork " watch?

Kinja'd!!!

mine is unfortunately showing its age so i don't wear it anymore, but I loved that dorky watch. I had audio clips of KARR (KITT's evil twin brother) and HAL 9000 (" I am completely operational, and all my circuits are functioning perfectly " and, of course, " I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that. "). I also had Spanish Flea and Tijuana Taxi , just for laffs.

I should post the Rolex to go with your post, but ironically my cheapest watch is my favorite. I know it's quartz. Don't judge me

No, not at all. I also like Quartz watches. The Omega, Breitling and Tag posted are Quartz. And Btw I like you watch

Tag's are quartz? I had no idea. Omega's are great.

Back in the 80's and 90's they have made a lot of Quartz watches. Mine is from 1993

Interesting. A tag will probably be my next one. I'm thinking of buying it for my five year anniversary at work, but i don't know if I will have enough cash. I have to get my wife a new watch. Bye your watches are awesome.

They are good value for money but, IMO, Omegas are better and more solid 2nd hand value. Interesting (or not), where I live women love to wear men watches. My girlfriend loves wearing mine. It's cheaper because I don't need to give her any watch :-)

You don't think the tag will appreciate? The Rolex has appreciated significantly in value.

Rolex was, is and will always be a solid value but in Portugal even they depreciate. The steel Submariner can be bought for 3500 euro in 2nd hand. They cost around 5500 euro new. Saying that, I believe that the Tag will depreciate a lot.

Bummer. I will have to really think about it. I'm a sucker for a good movement. I wish the women around here loved men's watches. It'd be a lot easier and cheaper.

And the most interesting thing is steel watches holding the value better than gold ones. You can buy a gold Rolex Daytona for the same price of a steel one (2nd hand of course)

That's crazy. I actually thought the gold was the only reason the one I had appreciated

True! It's bonkers but you can check that on ebay. Always a good source to know the average price of watches.

Beautiful pieces!

While they are still new to the industry, I really love the utilitarian look/feel of Bell & Ross; I'm known to bang my watches up, so having something nice and durable is key for me.
